Salman steals the show from Sonam and Ranbir

September 17th, 2007 by admin

Mumbai: It was an occasion meant to introduce two new star kids but guess who stole the show – actor Salman Khan but that didn’t take anything away from the music launch of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Saawariya.

After Salman and Rani Mukherjee introduced Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor to the audience on Saturday evening, the unusually ebullient Salman regaled the crowds with his one-of-a-kind witticisms.

At the event Salman had the final word on everything, right from his kind words for Bhansali, his dig at Shah Rukh Khan and his recently acquired six-pack abs and even his fear of being clubbed into the older brigade now.

While Sonam and Ranbir, making their first public appearance before a crowd that comprised film industry folk and media-persons, used the opportunity to say thank you to their director for giving them Saawariya.

Acknowledging the fact that they wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for their lineage, both promised to do their parents and their mentor proud.

So will Saawariya be a worthy successor to Black? And will Ranbir and Sonam do justice to their illustrious families?

We’ll know in November when the film hits the marquee. But just so you can decide for yourself, here’s a peek of this much-awaited film. Watch Trailer

Movie Review: Aggar

September 17th, 2007 by admin

By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

Obsession. The word has been a hot favorite of dream merchants in Bollywood. From Abbas-Mustan’s DARAAR to Yash Chopra’s DARR, to films made to this date, a number of storytellers have woven themes around the obsessive streak of individuals.

Ananth Narayan Mahadevan’s AGGAR also does that. A number of thrillers have successfully explored the darker side of human personality with dexterity. AGGAR is a fine addition to the list, although the sole glaring flaw lies in the fact that the director has chosen to opt for an atypical end to the story.

When everything was so unpredictable from start till pre-climax [screenplay: S. Farhan], when layer after layer was peeled with such finesse, when the viewer was absolutely clueless vis-à-vis what lay in store, why Ananth why opt for a tame ending?

Yet, in all fairness, AGGAR keeps you involved in most parts. That’s the hallmark of a good thriller, isn’t it? Read the rest of this entry »

Movie Review: Nanhe Jaisalmer

September 17th, 2007 by admin

By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

Right intentions don’t necessarily translate into right results. NANHE JAISALMER is a case in point.

Director Samir Karnik’s second outing is truly unconventional. It’s a simple story with no commercial paraphernalia and trappings, stars a kid as a protagonist, there’s no heavy duty drama here and nor is there the mandatory hero-heroine routine that Hindi films are made of. Oh yes, Karnik gambles big time this time around. Read the rest of this entry »
